Frankfurt: Merian, 1644. Hardcover (rebound in leather). Good Condition. 3 volumes bound in one each with separate title pages, rebound in full black morocco. Franconiae dated 1648 in the dedication (but likely a ca. 1679 reimpression), the others, 1646 and 1644 on the title pages. Scattered paper flaws, old repairs and tears (including a long tear to first title page), some old cellotape repairs to first title and elsewhere (significant cellotape repair to a few of the large folding plates including a view of Nuremberg), scattered browning and light dampstains, creases. Restitched by machine a bit close so that the inner gutter is not visible on the double page plates. With 44 plates, maps and views in Topographia Franconiae - the plate list is a bit difficult, but apparently missing 2. 41 plates, maps and views in Archiepiscopatum, Moguntinensis and 58 in Bavaria. In both cases apparently complete as compared to the rather obscure plates lists, but often bound out of order. Two plates detached but present. Most folding or double page, many plates with multiple views. Brunet V 1530 Size: Folio. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Over 3 kilos. Category: Travel & Places; Antiquarian & Rare. Inventory No: 043172.

Their major accomplishment, however, was the more detailed exploration and mapping of the coast and improving of Cook’s charts of the region. On the voyage out, visits were made to the Falkland and Hawaiian Islands. London : Thomas Bennet; John Nicholson; and Daniel Midwinter, 1705 A good copy of the 1st edition in recent full panelled calf bindings with 9 maps, 21 (of 22) plates, 2 frontispieces (one with loss) and 8 engravings in the text. John Harris (1633-1719) was an anglican priest and scientist, specialising in mathematics. He was admitted as an FRS in 1696. His written works were well-regarded and popular and Navigantium was published in 2 further enlarged editions. The 1st edition is relatively scarce and is sought after particularly for the first printings of the Moll maps. The bindings are in near fine clean condition with gilt-lined raised bands to the spine with gilt decoration in the compartments and title and volume labels. There is light scuffing. Internally new endpapers and blanks have been added. This set has been matched against the reference copy held by the Hathi Trust and matches it apart from a misplaced plate, a missing plate, a small misbound section in the appendix and a misplaced map… Leer más

Paris: Fabrique Générale d'Articles de Voyages, 1840. First Edition. Alexis Godillot (1816-1893) was a contemporary of Louis Vuitton (1821-1892) and first achieved renown in Paris for his beautiful hand-made luggage. With a workshop situated just a few blocks away from Vuitton's, this catalogue comes from this very early period of Godillot's life before he had revolutionised footwear by differentiating the moulding of the left shoe from the right and become the famous shoemaker who would go on to equip over one hundred thousand French soldiers for The Crimean War. 'Godillot' remains a slang French term for 'boot' to this day. The album features superb hand-coloured lithographs with an original sketch showcasing nearly one hundred accessories including bags, picnic baskets, apparel, wonderful old trunks, tents, and hammocks- true 'objets nomades' - many of which are in surprisingly bold and modern designs. A beautiful, rare, and precious catalogue of the articles a traveller might require for… Leer más

Descripción:
Hoffmann und Campe Verlag, 1963. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. THIS BOOK IS IN GERMAN (but the images are its main content). Mit einer Einleitung von Friedrich Schnack. Panoramas of 46 European cities and their surroundings, drawn from the 1695 edition of Archontologia Cosmica and the Topographia by the Swiss engraver Matthaeus Merian (the Elder) earlier in the 17th century. The engravings are on fold-out panoramic pages. 8" x 10-1/2" (~20 cm x 26.5 cm), pictorial boards, dust soil to edges, Paris fold-out was creased in the wrong place and protrudes slightly. The condition "fair" is a compromise between the "good" interior and "poor" binding: the backstrip is entirely missing and the paper over boards is ragged along where the backstrip was. Gift inscription on the half-title, other pages unmarked.

Descripción:
Indianapolis: Dog Ear Publishing, January 2013. Trade Paperback. Fine. Slight reading wear to corners, otherwise pristine. Not from a library. No remainder mark. Not clipped. Not damaged. Suitable for gifting. 163 pages. The 25 authors of this book were volunteers in the first Peace Corps rural community development project in Africa: Sierra Leone, 1965-67. They are also the first group to tell a collective story of Peace Corps volunteers, anywhere. The Peace Corps was in its infancy then, and memories of John Kennedy were strong among the young volunteers. Sierra Leone was also in its infancy in the first few years after independence, before military coups and tribal warfare became common. The authors forthrightly recount their feelings of loneliness and isolation, and their frightening experiences with secret societies and witchcraft, but their uniquely optimistic "can-do" American attitude brought most through a great life experience.

Descripción:
London: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Brown, 1823. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. pp: [viii]ix-xii [1]2-544. FIRST EDITION. Bound in brown half-leather over marbled boards, title in gilt within a red title piece. The first edition of the author's first book. William Wilson (1772-1849) inherited a substantial sum from an uncle, and decided to indulge his passion for travel. He travelled throughout Europe and The Middle East and wrote a series of books. This was his first, and it was the most popular, going through several editions. This is a good copy as all plates, including the frontispiece, have been excised. The boards show moderate wear, heavier at the spine ends. The front hinge is cracked. The text block is mainly clean with a few marks of unknown origin.
