1684 Saint Theophilus of Antioch Apology of Autolycus PAGAN Worship Holy Trinity

Theophilus of Antioch was a 2nd-century early church father primarily remembered solely for his work 'Apology to Autolycus'. This work is a collection of short books in which Theophilus defended Christianity to his pagan friend. He describes how he himself was born into paganism but found truth through Holy Scriptures and began to identify the flaws of pagan worship.

While this work is notable for refuting pagan practices, it is perhaps best-known for being the earliest Christian work to use the word 'trinity' when referring to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, even though 'Apology' is rooted in Jewish and Old Testament Hebrew scriptures.

This first Oxford edition was published in 1684 and features the iconic Sheldonian Theatre printer's mark on the title page.

Julius Caesar's war commentaries are some of the most prolific military writings! While not specifically known for his writing, Julius Caesar wrote this book which would become a mainstay in the Latin literature canon. It focuses on first-hand account of Julius Caesar in the Callic wars, but it was written as though from a third-person view.
This 1716 edition was collected and edited by Michael Maittaire and published in London. It should be noted that included in this edition is Aulus Hirtius' Bellum Alexandrinum and his continuation of Caesar's De bello Gallico.

Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
