Revere, the grandson of Paul Revere, was a U.S. naval officer with the Pacific squadron, and an observer of and participant in the events of the American military conquest of California. He later travelled in California and went to Sutter's Fort, which is illustrated in a charming lithographic frontispiece. The map illustrates the harbor at San Francisco. Revere fell in love with California and eventually acquired a rancho near Sonoma, where he finally settled. "The book contains valuable chapters on land laws and land titles, as well as the complete report of Col. Mason on the gold fields" - Zamorano 80.
