LONDON : SMITH ELDER , 1867 Publisher's Dark Brown Cloth boards with gilt blocked titles to spine, 180 x 115 mm approx. Publisher's adverts to paste downs, xii + 450 pp. Frontis + 27 other steel engravings as called for together with ornate Initial Letters and Tail-pieces. 1857 Reprint. The copy offered has a gift inscription from Alan Dent to James Bone for his depleted shelves(1941). James Bone was the London Editor of the Manchester Guardian Newspaper and Dent the Drama Critic. We surmise because of loss during the Blitz. Please see our images of the actual book offered for sale for further details and condition. Fair (Book- Mild general shelf wear and soiling, crack to front end paper and mull - book block holding by the two sewing cords only and hence very fragile. Ink gift insc. to reverse of frontis as above. No other notable defects). Offered as a binding copy with an interesting provenance.
