With 72 fine chromolithographs, many finished in gold, numbered 1-72 and 38 pages of explanation in German.
Plates include religious subjects, suits of armour, tapestries, gravestones, portraits of knights and ladies, fine jewelry, etc. from the 5th to 12th centuries in Europe.
Condition: Some scuffing to the marble boards and cloth spine, some foxing and discoloration to plates.
Dr. Hefner-Alteneck (1811 - 1903) was a German museum curator, archaeologist, art historian, illustrator and etcher.
