Type: Hardback 1939 First Edition First Printing Hardback Book in VG Condition with a Fair Dust Jacket, Unclipped. xiv + 322 pages with index plus a coloured frontispiece of "The Owen Glendower, East Indiaman, 1,000 Tons, Entering Bombay Harbor and 24 half-tone plates from old prints. Bound in publisher's blue cloth, gilt titling to spine and front cover. Very clean tight and solid book, sewn binding, slight wear to some extremities. Internals completely clean, no text markings, no marginalia, no creases. Clean red jacket is torn around all edges, protected in an archival sleeve. The story of how from a trading venture the British East India Company became the ruler of India and how this great trading comopany was absorbed after two centuries of existence, by the British Empire--from the granting of a petition for a monopoly of trade in the Indian Seas in 1600 to 1858 when the East India Company ceased to exist. 8.25 x 5.5 inches. 1939, D.
