Five raised bands to spine; gilt decoration to spine partially rubbed and flaked off. Contents of the book are excellent. Binding is tight, pages are clean and virtually free of foxing. . This is the second edition of Lemery's treatise on foods, three years following the first edition. He brings his training in medicine and botony to the study, considered to have laid the foundations of dietary science. The book deals with many kinds of foods and drinks: fruits, vegetables, meats, fish and other sea animals, beer, wine, coffee, even water. Index. 562 pp. Text is in French.
