FRENCH TEXT. 4to, approximately 270 x 215 mm, 10½ x 8¼ inches, 18 engraved folding plates by Lyonet, plus 1 engraved plate unnumbered (microscope) and 24 page description of the microscope used by Lyonet, title page printed red and black, pages: xxiv, 1-40, 1-587, 3 unnumbered pages of Index, divisional half-title, Avis au Relieur, 589-616, rebound in full modern panelled calf, maroon gilt lettered label to spine, gilt decorated spine, red edges. Occasional foxing and age-browning to margins, some pages a little dusty at edges, otherwise a very good handsome copy of this monograph on the Goat Moth. At the top of the title page is neatly written in ink: "Sowerby's Museum". James Sowerby the famous naturalist laid the foundation for a museum at the rear of his house from his own collection and donations from other scientists of the day.
