A series of sketches on the stereotypical nineteenth century Irishman, both humorous and melancholic. Here is the fourth edition of this work comprising nineteen tales, featuring the preface to the first edition. In some smart half calf uniform bindings signed Sotheran.Written by William Carledon, prolific writer known for his vivid descriptions of the life of the rural Irish. Illustrated with frontispiece to each volume and vignettes to the title pages, and twenty-right full page plates by W. H. Brooke. Collated, complete. In uniform half calf bindings over marbled boards, with marbled edges and endpapers. Externally sound with some shelf wear and rubbing to the boards and spine, minor scuffing to the title label to the spine of vol. IV. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting particularly affecting the leaves of plates, otherwise pages are generally bright and clean throughout. Illustrated with frontispiece to each volume and vignettes to the title pages, and twenty-right full page plates by W. H. Brooke. Collated, complete. Very Good
