Chatto and Windus, London, 1880. FIRST ONE VOLUME EDITION- with scarce catalogue dated JUNE 1880. The first single volume edition, following the rare two volume edition by four months. First issue calls for sewn catalogue dated the month of publication which was August 1880. Other copies noted with later Sept. and October ads, inserted. The present copy features earlier JUNE adverts, which are sewn. 8vo., pps. (xxiii) + 564. With 314 illustrations by W. Fr. Brown, True Williams, B. Day and other Artists, "with also three or four pictures made by the author of this book without outside help". A presentable copy in original pictorial red cloth, showing general wear, some soiling to covers, bumped/rubbed, spine sunned, text shaken within case, some spotting. Overall a good/very good copy of an unusual example. Blank 3386. BMC No261, p90-93.
Sinopsis
A Tramp Abroad is a work of non-fiction travel literature by American author Mark Twain, published in 1880. The book details a journey by the author, with his friend Harris (a character created for the book, and based on his closest friend, Joseph Twichell), through central and southern Europe. While the stated goal of the journey is to walk most of the way, the men find themselves using other forms of transport as they traverse the continent.
