Olearius was a young German who was a secretary to various embassies sent by the Duke of Holstein to the Tsar of Russia and the Shah of Persia to negotiate trade agreements. His first-hand accounts of his travels from 1633 - 1636 provide a look at officialdom as well as more mundane domestic matters in the lands he visited. This edition was translated and edited by Samuel H. Baron. Contains an index and a bibliography in the rear. Original green cloth publisher's binding with gilt spine lettering A nice clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings. The dust jacket in nice condition, however, there are two short tears that are tape-repaired from the back and it is price-clipped.; B&W Illustrations, Map; 8vo, 8"- 9" tall; 349 pages .
