Sobre este artículo

London: Grant and Griffith and Joseph Cundall, 1850. Very scarce first edition of Joseph Cundall's retelling of 21 classic children's tales inc Simple Simon, Little Bo-Peep, Tom the Piper's son and the Three Bears, in which Cundall made the female lead a young girl rather than an old women, although it was half a century later she was first called Goldilocks. Norwich-born Cundall, who published the book in association with Grant and Griffith, was a children's book publisher and prominent Victorian photographer. Half-leather covers on brown buckram boards with four raised bands, gilt title and rules, brown endpapers, unpaginated. More than 100 hand-coloured illustrations, inc milk-maid frontis. Brown endpapers. Charming note of provenance (dated 1934) lightly attached to ffep verso. Boards have wear and rubbing all round, with a few light marks. Joints and hinges are splitting, but holding. Page edges dusty and foxed with modest foxing throughout text bloc. Previous owner's stamp on front endpaper and another name on ffep. But otherwise internally in very decent condition with marvellous colour illustrations. Ref:104008. First Edition. Half Leather. G-/N/a. Illus. by John Absolon and Harrison Weir. 12x17.5cm.
