9 1/4 inches tall hardcover, recent marbled paper covered boards cloth spine, new endpapers, pages untrimmed, light foxing throughout, overall very good-. Section of original free endpaper affixed to front paste-down, containing contemporary ink signature of Alexander H. Bayly, Cambridge Md, 1835, i-xvi (leaf containing list of testimonials by American physicians of the original French edition [1829], dedication to Valentine Mott, M.D., mentor of the translators, List of Subscribers, Translators' Preface, Author's Preface, Index), pp 1-376, , i-xxviii (Appendix by the Translators).

JEAN-BAPTISTE MARC BOURGERY (1797 – 1849) was a French physician and anatomist who was a native of Orléans. In 1815 he began his studies in Paris, where he attended courses given by naturalist Jean Baptiste Lamarck (1744–1829). From 1817 to 1820 he worked as an interne at Parisian hospitals, and subsequently spent several years as a medical officer at the copper foundries in Romilly-sur-Seine. In 1827 he returned to Paris and received his medical doctorate. In 1830 he began work on Traité complet de l'anatomie de l'homme comprenant la médecine operatoire., a masterpiece on human anatomy that was published in eight volumes. Bourgery worked on the atlas until his death in 1849, with the last volume being published posthumously.

PROVENANCE: ALEXANDER HAMILTON BAYLY (1814-1892), was born in Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland. By 1832, he began to study medicine under Dr. Vans Murray Sullivan of Cambridge and worked under Dr. Samuel Baker of Baltimore. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Maryland in 1835. Dr. Bayly was known for his efficiency as a surgeon and in 1846 was the first to employ the use of a horse-shoe magnet to remove a piece of metal from the cornea. In addition to his renowned medical practice, Bayly was the President of the State Lunacy Commission.

Nason was a print maker from Lyme, Connecticut, known as the "poet engraver of New England." Nason became known for his poetic and somber observations of the rural New England landscape. According to a statement on the reverse, this is a limited edition for members of the Society of Pring Connoisseurs of Alexandria, Virginia.

Handsome, high-quality glossy modern reproduction of a candid WW2-era shot of a smiling Walsh standing in front of his plane, inscribed and signed boldly in black fineline at left center: "Ken Walsh CMH / Lt Col USMC (Ret.) / VMF-124 & 222 / 21- Victories." This is accompanied by an 11" X 14" print, a 1991 reproduction of a pencil portrait of Walsh, his fighter plane and his Medal of Honor, boldly signed in pencil at lower right by noted aviation artist Lonnie Ortega. Atwater (1904-1976) born in Baker City, OR, and Harvard grad, worked as a Montana racher and trapper, forest ranger, and was WWII 10th Mountain Division veteran. Later through his work at Wasatch National Forest, he became known as the father of the Snow Avalanche work in the U.S., and this title has become very scarce.

Paris: H. Camus, 1870. Overall condition is good. This six piece wooden puzzle with applied depicts a critical scene in the life of little Tom Thumb. The color lithograph is done by H. Jannin depicts the two parents at a table by a fire with sad expressions, as the caption reveals that the mother and father have decided to "loose" Tom in the forest. The mother has her hands clasped beneath her chin and the father with a hand over his heart to convey the difficult decision they made. All the while, Little Tom is eavesdropping right behind them. The puzzle is simple and is doable for a small child. Measures 6 3/4" x 5

Depicts a clever water-powered sewing machine in upper left-hand corner of the receipt, powered by the company's proprietary water motor that "will run Sewing Machines, Fans, Scroll Saws, Coffee Mills, Lathes, Printing Presses, Grindstones, Ice Cream Freezers, Washing Machines, etc." (recto). An illustrated advertising booklet for hard rubber "Ace" brand combs, marketed to fashionable women in the 1920s. Offers advice for proper hair care and how to make finger waves, and illustrates "Combs of Former Ages" from the Roman era, Renaissance era, Stone Age, etc. The next pages illustrate Ace combs and their sleek modern designs. Also of note in the booklet is the inclusion of "The Comb Maker", a 1568 poem "from a rare book" (p. 21). Includes some fabulous Art- Deco inspired images of women. Single vol. (6.5" by 5"), pp. 32, illus., stapled in original illus. wrps. The American Hard Rubber Company was originally based in New Jersey, and made the state known as a major center for rubber products such as combs, shoe soles, and syringes.
