Contemporary speckled calf, some light wear, recently rebacked retaining the original spine label. "...easily the most successful and widely used military drillbook to appear in English during the century" (ODNB), the work helped Bland's career, rising to Colonel while serving in Flanders and later, as a lieutenant-general, being made Governor of Gibraltar, among other posts.
