Jonathan Cape, 1960. 1st Thus. Hardcover. VG++/VG+. 1st one-volume abridged Edition. 13 x 20.2 cm green cloth with pale green titles to the spine. Pictorial endpapers, 398pp with black and white illustrations by Isobel and John Morton-Sale. In original unclipped jacket priced at 16s net. With a gift inscription from the Beverley Nichols to fellow author Paul Gallico on the front free endpaper. The boards are clean and bright with a little bruising to the bottom corners and a little dust staining to the top edge. Internally clean, only the author's gift inscription on the front free endpaper. The dust jacket, which is now protected in a removable clear cover (not shown), is a little toned and dust marked on the rear panel has two 1cm closed tears on the tips of the fore edge and one on the bottom edge of the front panel. There is a tiny chip on the top joint of the lower panel with some associated creasing.
