Raleigh: E. M. Uzzell & Co., Printers, 1908. First Edition First Printing . Soft cover. Good. 8vo. 62 pages. Soft cover bound in grey printed wrappers. Some rubbing and wear to the binding. The foot of the spine is a little chipped, and there is splitting to the front hinge from the foot of the spine going about an inch up and on the rear hinge running up from the foot about two inches. A sound copy. The text is toned, and the volume appears to have belonged to a smoker. There is a small erratum slip tipped in between pages 22 and 23. Henry Wirz (1823-1865) was a Confederate Officer in command of Andersonville Prison in Georgia. He was one of only two Confederate officers tried and executed for War crimes coming out of the Civil War. Samuel A'Court Ashe (1840-1938) was a Confederate officer and was a noted North Carolina historian and apologist for the Old South and Confederacy after the Civil War. He was born in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina and grew up near Wilmington, spending much of his later life in Raleigh. Hew as also a newspaper editor, and in the early 20th century he acquired the "Raleigh Daily Observer.
