[3], 4-256pp. Slightly later half calf and marbled paper over boards, spine divided into six panels by gilt double rules, title to second panel. Worn to extremities, spine ends slightly chipped, loss to marbled paper covering lower portion of lower board. Ffep slightly chipped to gutter edge, portrait lightly foxed with light water staining to bottom edge, one or two spots of soiling to text (especially L2 and L6), small hole to fore edge margin of B8 (not affecting text), but generally fairly clean. Portrait frontispiece of Gerrald by J.[ohn] Kay (see Alexander, 'A Biographical Dictionary of British and Irish Engravers, 1714-1820', page 516. Gerrald, one of the 'Scottish Martyrs', was found guilty of sedition and transported for fourteen years. He died in 1796. Daniel Isaac Eaton was one of the publishers. Ferguson 179. First Edition.
