Raleigh, NC: Edwards & Broughton, Printers and Binders, 1879. First edition. 8vo. 56 pp. Moore (1801-1878), a Halifax County native and 1820 UNC graduate, served in the state legislature in the 1830s and 1840s, remained a staunch Unionist during the Civil War, aided in the writing of a new state constitution and laws relating to freedmen following the conflict, and had steady work in Federal courts before his death. Relatively uncommon, OCLC locates 13 copies. Original printed gray wrappers (old light tideline at lower margins of wrappers and a few leaves of text), cover title enclosed within a bold black mourning border. Two owners' inscriptions, a number of text passages marked in pencil, else very good.
