London: Daniel O'Connor, 1922. Book. Illus. by 16 full page London plates, endpaper London map and a facsimile title page. Near Fine. Decorative Cloth. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Very nice facsimile edition of the 1716 edition of Gay's famous poem. In white cloth having an elaborate design of gilt roses and gilt rectangles. Bright gilt titles on the front and on the spine. Top edge gilt. Inside , very clean and tight with no prior owner marks, no stains or foxing. Browning on the free endpapers from something like newspaper that was left there at some time. Near fine dust jacket has no tears or fading, protected in a brodart clear sleeve. The famous poet, John Gay (1683 to 1732, also wrote The Beggar's Opera. A fine book production on Van Gelden Zonen handmade paper. Several of the plates are by Hogarth. Extensive notes to explain words, phrases and names in the text, at the end..
