Sobre este artículo
The Butler County Historical Society, El Dorado, KS (1st Edition, 1981). Hardcover with mustard-colored boards/black titles; no dust jacket, as issued. Clean and unmarked, binding square and tight.
ABOUT THE BOOK: This, the third volume in "The Kingdom of Butler" series, provides a somewhat different look at the fascinating story told by its two predecessors. Instead of reciting Butler County's history in chronological order with emphasis on events and dates, this volume attempts to be a recorder of light-hearted incidents and of interesting or unusual situations recalled by contributors. Thus, the title--"Tales of The Kingdom of Butler." Anecdotes, carefully researched by the author, fill its pages. All are true and, it is hoped, entertaining. Butler County, Kansas, was settled by a sturdy band of men and women who endured daily hardships in order to survive. At times, however, events or incidents occurred which occasioned fun and laughter. Others brought tears. It is such pioneer potpourri that "Tales of The Kingdom of Butler" attempts to recapture.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Lawrence P. Klintworth (1906-1989) was the news editor of The El Dorado (Kansas) Times for nearly 35 years. He also worked for William Allen White's Emporia Gazette as a reporter and editorial writer for a period of five years (with time out for naval duty during World War II). A native Kansan, Klintworth attended Wichita High School, Friends University for three years and was graduated from Florida Southern University at Lakeland, Fla., in 1928. Soon afterward he went to work as a reporter for The Wichita Eagle and also was employed in the Wichita bureau of the Associated Press. Klintworth is the author of several books relating to various phases of Butler County history, including The Kingdom of Butler, 1857-1970: A History of Butler County, Kansas (with Jessie Perry Stratford); Oil Hill: The Town that Cities Service Built; and A Personal Glimpse of William Allen White. All were published by the Butler County Historical Society.
