R. Hale 1953 (1st.).. Bound in original light blue cloth, with original dustwrapper. In very good condition. Slight bump head of front board. Inside on endpapers & fore edges a little foxed, else generally clean & tight. (dw:designed by I.Hawkins). Many photo.plates. 310pp. The first half of the book consists of over 40 short essays, which were considered "as something unique in newspaper journalism" when they were first published in The Sunday Times. The rest is a continuation in the same style and manner ( they incl.among others an essay on Japanese Gardens, on a German 18th.doll's house/ and a postcript to his well-known book on Spain).
