Sobre este artículo

Quarto (12 1/4 X 8 inches) England: Printed by Edward Jones in the Savoy, And Published by him and Randal Taylor near Stationers Hall, 1693. First Edition. 64 pages (pages 29-32 are misnumbered with no loss) containing testimony and the transcript of a sensational murder trial that later figured in Thackery's Henry Esmond; hardcover, bound in nineteenth century course grained half calf, with matching corners, and marbled paper over boards. Very good condition (showing normal shelf wear to corners and along spine), printed on wove paper (minor age blemishes to a few pages, not affecting text or contents), armorial bookplate.

A contemporary record of a murder trial, "... contain(ing) all the requisite elements to command attention: the death of a popular celebrity actor; the attempted kidnap of another; and the involvement of an underage member of the peerage .... "

"The ensuing trial proceedings proved one of the society events of the year." A record of intrigue that drew the attention, at the time, of Queen Mary who said " ...that the verdict (of acquittal) was symptomatic of a rot at the very heart of society."
