The Tryal and Conviction of Sr Sam Bernardiston bart for High-Misdemeanor at the Session of Nisi Prius holden at Guild-Hall, London for his Majesties Court of Kingsbench before the Right Honourable Sir George Jeffreys

London: Benjamin Tooke, 1684 30 pages (complete although there are no page numbers 9-12 presumably due to printer's error).Sir Samuel Barnardiston ( name having seemingly been mis-spelt by printer) was a whig politician , and director of the East India Company, who was involved in a number of legal cases.This trial was for an alleged libel contained in a private letter that Barnardiston wrote to an acquaintance in which he commented on the conviction of Algernon Sidney for High Treason. Although on conviction Barnardiston was fined £10,000 (and imprisoned until he had paid £6000) the judgement was reversed in 1689 by the House of Lords. There is a small tear on the title page with slight impact on lettering, two corners ( c4cm by c4cm) on the final sheet have been lost but with no impact on lettering. Recently rebound in quarter-leather.
