Several techniques were used depending upon the method each book artist chose. These varied from letterpress printing and xerox transfer to ink-jet, laser, and/or silkscreen printing. A collaborative series of eight artists books created by one poet and eight artists. Each unique book illustrates a different poem by Michele Wong.

Charlottesville:: Virginia Center for the Book,, 2022.. Edition of 30. Prints are 7" by 10" with a vertical orientation. The printmaking methods represented in the collection are as eclectic as the patron saints they portray. Each set of prints is housed in a paper retablo, or small Peruvian-style altar-box. A built-in frame compartment holds all 14 prints. When the retablo stands open, the top-most print is displayed. Closed, the retablo measures 7.125" x 13" x .5". Belly band closure with printed title. Each print signed and numbered by the artist. Signed and numbered by the artist. Jan Owen: "In 2020, the New York Times decided to capitalize Black as they did in1930 for the designation, Negro. But Black and White is hardly a description of the many shades of skin tones so I made shades of pinks and browns, ochre, and red to make the faces.  "The words in 'Black White' are about racism said by writers, preachers, Congress. I don’t think there’s one way, there are many ways that we can learn to give up our prejudices. " I feel that - Laws change actions. Stories change hearts. History records. Arts make visible. Music crosses cultures. Sport makes teams.

AB Gorham: "'Unidentified Found Object Song' is an artist book that draws on published documentation of unidentified flying objects (ufos) and other alien phenomenon to create a mysterious visual/reading encounter. This book exists on the edge of visual and textual logic, taking recognizable objects and elements of landscape and defamiliarizing them through digital manipulation, unexpected color combinations, and isolation from context. Each spread contains a vaguely-familiar visual mystery letterpress printed in colors from saturated reds and golds to transparent violets. Seiko Tachibana from the Colophon: “Letter in the Wind is a book about poetry—the poetry of language itself. There is a familiar Japanese phrase, which literally translated become ‘I heard it from a letter in the wind.’…More precisely, the phrase means ‘the wind delivered a message to me,’ or as the common English saying goes, ‘a little bird told me.’ “This book is comprised of 16 Japanese words, each realized in the form of a card. These 16 words are themselves constructed from two separate words: the Japanese word for wind and one other word, which when combined create an entirely new term whose meaning relates in some way to the wind.”… Leer más

Lanston Monotype Corp. Ltd. London 1928. FIRST EDITION. 4to. ( 11.5 x 8.9 inches). Illustrated with mono printed examples of ornamental borders and panels on both sets of endpapers and from pages 5 to 67. These are followed by 19 pages of various coloured paper which have been printed with colour pattern. A beautiful book in fine condition in the publishers red cloth with gilt lettering and decorations to the spine and front board. In an early, possibly original, plain glassine wrapper which is a bit torn and creased but has done its job of protecting the book.

Carolyn Shattuck: "My books have evolved into saving endangered animals or recognizing marginalized women artists. I learned about these quilters from a book called 'Glorious American Quilts'. "'Quilters'is a flexagon/popup created to acknowledge the unknown and marginalized women of the 19th century." Quilt patterns shown in the flexagon: Bird of Paradise Quilt Top by unidentified quilter dated between 1858-1863; Log Cabin Throw by Harriet Rutter Eagleson dated between 1884-1880; String Quilt by unidentified quilter dated between 1920-1940; Center Star Crazy Throw by Mary Ann Crocker Hinman dated between 1880-1890.

The Knight in the Panther's Skin is an unequivocal work by medieval Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli, this translation by Marjory Waldrop was the first prose translation in the English language. This copy bound in a unique copper relief casing featuring a traditional Georgian portrait to the front with a bold pattern and Georgian script to the rear board.
A prolific translator, Waldrop travelled to Georgia in the late 1800s when it was still part of Imperial Russia, and published three English translations of Georgian titles in the following five years. The Knight in the Panther's Skin was the fourth and final translation, but was only published in 1912 three years after her death. Waldrop refused publication in her lifetime, feeling it wasn't up to snuff. It remains the translation against which all others… Leer más
