Hard cover in very good condition with red boards, black Chinese letters on front board, and black panels with silver gilt lettering on spine. Small white spot on front board. Top stained red. Former owner's name in ink on top back of front board. Contains a section of 4 leaves / 8 pages of 16 illustrations / b&w photographs. Also five maps. Less than 40 pages in the last chapters have unobtrusive ink lines / brackets in margins / underlining with two or three tiny margin notes. 470 numbered pages; concludes with Section of Notes to the chapters, Section of a Bibliography Note, and an extensive Index. Dust jacket in good condition with shelf & edge wear; chips to head & heel of spine and corners; rubbing; several scratches; age toning to the white of the back of jacket & flaps; not price clipped. * From the front flap, ""One of the great needs today is for a clear picture of the history of China in the twentieth century. Mr. Clubb's book is a political history of China from the dynastic era to the present Communist period. It deals with domestic developments as well as with foreign relations - especially American, Japanese, and Russian - wherever they have an important bearing on domestic evolution.""
