The author founded and lived at Hull-House, a settlement house which provided living quarters and cultural activities to some of the poor families of Chicago, many of them immigrants. Illustrated with photos from Hull-House and of the author. An entry in the publisher's 100 Greatest Masterpieces of American Literature series, issued in conjunction with the Bicentennial of the American Revolution. One of an unspecified number in this limited edition. Publisher's "Notes from the Editors" booklet about this work is included. --- Bound in full red bonded leather covers with three raised bands on spine. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spine, and textblock edges (AEG) all in bright gilt. Interior leaves printed on high-quality papers. Red silk moire endpapers, with matching sewn-in satin ribbon placemarker. Volume lacks a dust jacket (as issued). --- An excellent, gift-worthy copy though with scratches to textblock fore-edge gilding.; Octavo (8 to 9 in. tall); xvi, 267 pages .
