Sobre este artículo
Victor Gollancz, London, 1934. 2nd Printing. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good- Condition/No Dust Jacket. From the blurb on the dust jacket (missing from this copy): "As the British-born tutor to the Dragon Emperor, Johnston was the only foreigner in history to be allowed inside the inner court of the Qing Dynasty. Johnston carried high imperial titles and lived in both the Forbidden City and the New Summer Palace. Includes detailed descriptions of daily life including Pu-yi's wedding, and anecdotal material of the last days of the Ch'ing Dynasty court before the 1911 Revolution. He knew many of the active players in these events, and of historical significance are his observations of the Ch'ing court's political structure, and in particular the Nei Wu Fu or Imperial Household Department." It is extensively illustrated with 23 photographs printed on coated stock bound in, along with the Pedigree of the Manchu Emperors, printed on onionskin and tipped in facing page 454. This is a second printing with the title on the spine in a sans-serif typeface, along with the author's full name. Size: Small Quarto (9-11"). 486 pages. The text block is tight. The pages are slightly toned from age but are unmarked. Very Good-Minus hardcover bound in green cloth over boards. There is a 3/4" split at the top edge of the front cover, exposing the board, and a 1/4" cut towards the top of the back side of the spine. The green is toned from exposure along the top edge of the covers and the spine, although the gilt title remains bright. It is shaken, with separations between the front free endpaper and a blank sheet and the last page of the index and the rear free endpaper, exposing the webbing. There is foxing on the page edges, the first few leaves (up to page 18) and on the last page of the Index. A previous bookseller has marked a stock number and price on the pastedown of the front cover. Quantity Available: 1. Category: Travel & Places; Britain/UK; 1930s; History. Pictures of this item not already displayed here available upon request. Inventory No: 1381. .
