Sobre este artículo

White Marsh [Montgomery County, Pennsylvania], December 29, 1845. Two Autograph Letters Signed, one sent as an enclosure. [1]p. and [2¼]pp. 4tos. One leaf plus a bifolium. Folds; small loss at wax seal not affecting text; very good.

Pair of 1845 autograph letters signed by Judge Morris Longstreth (1800-1855) of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Longstreth here writes about his re-nomination as associate judge to former Congressman, now associate judge, John Conrad Bucher (1792-1844) of Dauphin County:

"I thank you for the kind interest you take in the affair of the Judgeship, and cannot but think there must be some unknown influence exercised on the mind of the Governor.... Taking advantage of your friendly offer, I enclose you a letter which you can, if you think proper, exhibit to the Govr. and his advisers."

The enclosed letter mentioned by Longstreth is included here. It is about 2¼ pages long and is a more formal proof of Longsteth's worthiness as he "...cheerfully [yields] to the public will." This second letter or enclosure includes a list of judges, attorneys, and other Democratic notables who support Longstreth's re-nomination for judge.

"Morris Longstreth was twice appointed Associate Judge of Montgomery County. ...made his home...at 'Valley Green' in the White Marsh Valley."¹

John Conrad Bucher was a Jacksonian Democrat who was elected to one term in Congress in 1831. Bucher was a lawyer who practiced in Harrisburg, Dauphin County. He held various political offices there and was appointed associate judge of Dauphin County from 1839 until his death.²
