New York: Doubleday, Doran & Company , Inc.. Very Good. 1928. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Hardcover. This book is in Very Good to Near Very Good+ condition and is lacking a dust jacket. The book covers have some beginning bumping and rubbing to the spine ends and corners. There is some light toning to the spine and several spots of discoloration to the rear cover. The text pages are mostly clean and bright. The front pastedown has a previous owner's inked name and a smallish portion of the top corner of the last page has been torn off. "Mary Roberts Rinehart (August 12, 1876 – September 22, 1958) was an American writer, often called the American Agatha Christie, although her first mystery novel was published 14 years before Christie's first novel in 1920. Rinehart is considered the source of the phrase "The butler did it" from her novel The Door (1930) , although the novel does not use the exact phrase. Rinehart is also considered to have invented the "Had-I-But-Known" school of mystery writing, with the publication of The Circular Staircase (1908)." .
