Lancaster was Powell's preferred illustrator but unfortunately this is the only American hard cover edition to use his work. The true first publication of these two early Anthony Powell novels in the United States. After the first appearance of A Question of Upbringing the Periscope Bookshop and the Holliday Bookshop, New York City, cooperated in bringing out these two early works by Powell in an edition of perhaps 4,000 volumes.
