[Italy:], [c1580-1610].. Extremely rare.. 8.5 x 13.5 cm.. Beautiful and rare, fine impression engraving, trimmed at border. Tiny stain mark at outer margin top edge, outside of border, no true affect. Mounted at top corners with old mounting tape strips, on larger plain leaf. A beautiful and haunting piece. Suitable for framing. Two winged putti seated on clouds the one at left holds a plate with the head of St. John the Baptist, a putti head beneath. Giovanni Maglioli (fl. 1580-1610), Italian painter and designer of ornamental prints of sea-creatures and putti. Very rare works. BM: 1878, 0713.1851.
