Sobre este artículo
Typed letter by Cantor on his St. Regis Hotel letterhead. Letter reads: "Dear Mrs. Friedman: We've got a date together, you and I. Usually someone else does the inviting. When you come, it's my job to crack a joke, sing a song, give you something to laugh about. This time it's no laughing matter. I'm asking you as a key UJA contributor and leader to lunch with me on Monday, September 19th at 12:30 p.m. at the Commodore Hotel. This is n't a fund-raising meeting, but believe me, it's just as important. Why should I be writing to you about it? I'll tell you. I got back recently from another of my trips overseas. I saw again with my own eyes what our people there are up against. I'm talking about the men and women and kids still in DP camps, the people desperate to leave Eastern Europe. I'm talking about the sufferers in the miserable North African ghettos. I'm talking about the hundreds of thousands who at last reached Israel, the land of their dreams, only to find that they've still got to wait... and wait... and wait, because there isn't enough money available to give them a decent place to live or a chance to start rebuilding their lives. I saw enough of that picture to appreciate the jam UJA's agencies are in and I asked to be allowed to call this meeting on September 19th so we could figure out together what to do about it. I'm a busy man too, and I can promise you we'll be finished in 75 minutes. I won't let anything stop me from attending this luncheon, and I hope you feel the same way. Won't you please make your reservation now? We need you. Sincerely yours, Eddie Cantor." 2 fold lines where the letter was folded for mailing. Some brown toning to back of page from previously being adhered to something. 7 1/4 x 10 1/8 inches.
