Bound in moss green cloth blocked in gilt depicting ivy covered borders and central memento mori design by Stewart. Housed in a matching moss green slipcase. Small bumps to slipcase edge and corner. Fine book in Near Fine slipcase. Le Fanu's masterpiece of the Victorian Gothic. It was first published in 1864, six years prior to his sapphic vampire novella Carmilla. Uncle Silas shows a strong interest in the occult and Swedenborgian mysticism. The novella is an early example of the locked-room mystery genre.
