Shute. Blue-grey illus. cloth with US flag and gilt/black lettering. 282 pp. with bw frontis and 7 additional bw plates. The first volume of Stratemeyer's Old Glory Series, written "to present to young readers a simple and straightforward statement concerning the several causes leading up to the war with Spain, to give a brief view of the conditions prevailing in the ill-fated islands of Cuba and the Philippines, and to trace, incident by incident, just as they actually occorred, the progress of that wonderful battle of Manila Bay..." Illustrations by A.B. Shute. The former owner was Lindley Johnson, Jr., son of renowned Philadelphia architect, Lindley Johnson.
