"Mr. Kimball combines in an unusual degree literary talent, and a knowledge of mercantile affairs as transacted in the daily life of city and country. He has, consequently, been able to inaugurate a new style of novel, and may fairly be considered the creator of the Romance of Business. In his hands it takes a form as distinct as the naval, military, sentimental, sensational or any other class into which the popular fictions of the day naturally fall."
