Sweden 1993. July 24th, 1753, the birthday of Queen Louise-Ulrique, was a day charged with feelings of expectation. For this occasion, her husband Adolphe-Frédéric had secretly constructed a little chateau The Chinese Pavilion that would be transported to its destined site at Drottningholm on this day. The building was painted with ornate, red, braided patterns and exotic palm trees, while the roof was covered with colorful ornaments and hanging tassels. The entire ensemble was surrounded by sinuous hedges and an enclosing wall painted in celadon green and red. Elaborate festivites celebrated the opening of this palace, including marches by soldiers simulating the Chinese Imperial Guard, as well as a performance of a Chinese ballet. In the evening, a sumptuous dinner concluded this day filled with wonder.
