Sobre este artículo
Los Angeles: Los Angeles Turf Club, [1934]. First edition. Quarto (8 1/2 x 11 3/4 inches). [12] pp. with numerous color designs of the track and clubhouse. Publisher's buff wrappers with a front cover illustration of a jockey in red within a brown frame. Old crease to center but quite clean and fresh. The opening paragraph of this promotional booklet reads; "To carry on a splendid heritage, Santa Anita Park has been conceived. Horse racing is coming back to Southern California on a grand scale and one of the finest mile tracks in America will be ready for the inaugural race on Christmas Day 1934." The "splendid heritage" refers to Lucky Baldwin's racetrack, which once had been on his Santa Anita ranch. "Fifty-three racing days have been awarded to the Club for the 1934-1935 season by the California Horse Racing Board and exceptional purses will attract the finest stables. The first Santa Anita Handicap of $100,000 which, with added money for entrance, will bring the purse to a total of approximately $140,000 and provide the richest stake in the world, will be run during the final days of the meet". Included within this booklet is a single leaf printed invitation: "At the request of The Membership Committee, the Board of Directors of Los Angeles Turf Club, Inc. extends to Mr. Edward H. Rurt (this in manuscript) a cordial invitation of become an Associate Member of the Season 1934-1935. Membership is by invitation only and a prompt reply will be appreciated". Also laid in is a singe leaf application for membership to the Los Angeles Turf Club at a $220 initiation fee. The artwork in this item is particularly appealing, especially the double page spread showing the proposed new Los Angels Turf Clubhouse, grandstand and sic acre paddock with the Sierra Madres in the background. No copies located by OCLC though one suspects that there are many out there.
