Original dark brown cloth, gilt-lettered spine. A very fine copy. This work is the first title in the Bureaus' Hawaiian series. Prior to this, only titles on American Indians were issued. The material was "collected and translated, with notes and an account of the Hula." The author was born July 1, 1839 in Waialua, Oahu, the son of Protestant missionaries. Well-educated, Emerson was a well-known historian and writer of Hawaiian mythology..

The Argonaut Book Shop was founded in 1941 in the middle of the financial district of San Francisco. The Argonaut was a founding member of the Antiquarian Booksellers\' Association of America and has been a member in good standing ever since. The Shop is now located just three blocks from Union Square in downtown San Francisco and is open six days a week. Parking facilities include ample street space and a parking garage close by.
