Extensively illustrated with 7 lithographs (6 tinted, 1 hand colored) and 7 maps (3 folding but loose in front of book). The hand colored lithographic plate is a "Portrait of an Araucanian chief." One of the tinted lithographs is the nine panel folding plate (one section partially detached at a fold), "Panoramic view from Santa Lucia." Washington, D.C.: A.O.P. Nicholson Printers, 1855. First Edition. Very good(-).<br/><br/> This is Volume 1 of a 4 volume set covering the US Naval Astronomical Expedition to the Southern Hemisphere from 1849-1852.
