8vo. New York: Brentano’s Publishers, 1925. 8vo, 249 pp. Black cloth, dust jacket illustrated by Joseph Fannell. Slight offsetting to the title page, text clean, one board corner bumped, dust-jacket lightly spotted, spine panel toned, head slightly chipped, a very good copy in a slightly worn dust-jacket. Bookseller ticket of Gelber-Lilienthal Inc. of San Francisco on rear pastedown (founded in 1924, the partners also established the Lantern Press). § First American Edition. Firbank’s first major novel and his longest, his works were inspired by London’s fin de siècle aesthetes. An openly gay writer who traveled extensively (and expensively), he died in Rome at only 40.

Located in downtown San Francisco, we have served an international clientele of private collectors, libraries, and institutions for 35 years. We are actively purchasing books and manuscripts in all fields, especially medieval illuminated and text manuscripts; material on California, Hawaii, and Pacific voyages; illustrated books and fine bindings from the 15th through the 20th century; and fine press printing.
