Garden City: Sun Dial Press, 1944. John Hersey is one of the best of mid-20th Century writers; this is his second published book, the result of his work as a correspondent during World War II. He was better-known for his later career as a fiction writer; he received a Pulitzer Prize for "A Bell for Adano." Originally published by Knopf in 1943 (and reprinted by Shocken in 1989), this is a wartime reprint, a "War Book Panel Imperative." Somewhat scarce in this Fine condition. Brown cloth binding with red lettering. Clean text; 138 pages. Just a hint of a bump to the crown of the spine. Quercus notes that the quality of the paper used is much higher than most wartime productions The dustjacket has light edgewear and some fading of the spine. In a plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Reprint.. Hard Cover. Fine/Very Good. Illus. by Donald L. Dickson.
