Sobre este artículo
Small folio (14x9 1/2), original green gilt cloth, illustrated with 45 (of 52) color plates. Binding with some minor wear, back hinge cracked, three plates have been removed and laid on board, and then laid back in (these plates are defective), a few plates have short tears at edges; most plates are in very good condition. Vanity Fair was founded by Thomas Gibson Bowles (AKA Jehu Junior) in 1868. The first issue appeared in 1869, and this magazine would continue through 1913. Bowles wrote much of the humorous and racy commentary in the early years. Despite presenting humorous caricatures of people, along with gossip about them, most people seemed to be were flattered to be selected to be in Vanity Fair. This copy is missing seven plates, but with the exception of three laid in plates, the rest are in pretty nice condition. This copy includes a caricature of Sir Richard Owen, the father of paleontology, and John Stuart Mill. DNB.
