London: John Murray, 1875/1888. Second Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Volume I: Second Edition, Revised. Four Thousand. 1875. xi, 473 pp. 8vo. Volume II: Second Edition, Revised. Sixth Thousand. 1888. x, 495 pp. 8vo. Greern cloth publisher bindings with blind embossed borders to covers, gold embossed titling to spines, which has faded slightly. Light wear and scuffing to covers, small losses at corners. Light foxing to prelims and final pages of each volume. Volume I has previous owner's name in ink dated 1881 on second free endpaper. Volume II has a library bookplate on front pastedown, but no library markings within or on spine. Both volumes very clean within.
Sinopsis
The Variation of Animals and Plants under Domestication is a book written by Charles Darwin that was first published in January 1868. A large proportion of the book contains detailed information on the domestication of animals and plants but it also contains in Chapter XXVII a description of Darwin's theory of heredity which he called pangenesis.
