Original green hardcover cloth binding has moderate rubbing to the extremities, mainly affecting the spine. Illustrated with an engraved frontisportrait of Matthew Vassar, and numerous in-text vignettes. Affected by moderate foxing throughout the text. Ex-libris, with institutional discard label on the inside front cover, a remnant of a check-out label on the rear endpaper, four small numerals on a page of preface, and minor call number removal evidence at the bottom of the spine. First edition, with the ornate gilt stamped "V" on the front cover bright, crisp and attractive..
