The author was Piotr Feliksovich Maevsky (1851-1892). Significant edgewear to cover, internally sound with minimal tanning of paper. Owner's signature and oil spot on ffep (M. Kirshbaum?), another on end paper (V. Rikovshky?) with oaktree bookplate of Heino Ross. Spine sl. frayed at top edge, some insect damage to glued areas. The text contains keys to genera and species, generic descriptions and Russian and Latin names of genera and species, summaries of distribution (by local government region) and habitat, flowering times, and selected line drawings mostly showing both the whole plant and flowers or fruits. A compact yet comprehensive flora which went through several editions, a third (edited by B. Fedchenko) in 1902 and another in 1917, an 8th (with a slightly different title) in 1954 and a 9th (edited by B.K. Shishkin) in 1964.… Leer más

Complete with two folding maps: "Map of the Routes & Distances to the Virginia Springs" (approx. 28 x 39 cm) and "White Sulphur Springs, Virginia. J. Calwell Proprietor. 1847" (approx. 19 x 24 cm). Contemporary (perhaps original) half calf over marbled boards with gilt-lettered black leather spine label, raised bands, and gilt rules on spine. Good plus. Front hinge professionally repaired with Japanese tissue. Light wear and a few small scuffs to leather. Leaves just a trifle toned, but generally clean. Small adhesive remnant to margin of one leaf, in no way affecting text. First folding map has a professional tissue repair along the length of one vertical fold with loss of several letters of text (the "ewi" in Lewisburg and the "h" in Salt Sulphur.) But the set is externally very rough -- covers bruised, battered & stained, hinges broken or weak, some edges rubbed through, moth-eatenscarring, some backstrip missing on one or two books etc etc etc etc -- yet despite all faults appears to be a complete & substantially intact copy of a significant & RARE GENEALOGICAL TREASURE TROVE for England, Ireland, Scotland & Wales mid-1800's, just prior to the major colonial emigrations. The Montauk's cruise was from New York to the Caribbean, which set sail February 21, 1884 and returned May 3, 1884 stopping at Bermuda, St. Kitt's, St. Pierre, Martinique, Trinidad, Curacao, Jamaica, Cuba, Havana and Florida. An interesting amount of sheet music and poetry add to the narrative. Gives very detailed descriptions of social conditions with notes on slavery and the natives in the places visited. This is a scarce, antique copy of "Taintor's Route and City Guides" - this particular guide is for "The Erie Railway and its Branches." Published in 1867 by Taintor Brothers in New York. The guide features 20 color maps in all. "With descriptive sketches of the cities, villages, stations, and of scenery and objects of interest along the route" by H.F. Walling. There are illustrated advertisements at both the front and back. Please see the photos for the complete list of contents.Condition:The pages are in great condition - mostly clean and white with no writing and only some trace foxing at the top margin of pages 11-16, a light stain at the lower-outer edge of pages 6 & 7, and a 1/2" tear at the outer edge of the advertisement page between pages 4 & 5. The covers have detached from the spine; the top and bottom pieces of the spine (about 1" and 1/2" respectively) are missing; light stains at the top-right corner of the front cover; a dime-sized layer of paper has peeled off at the bottom-right corner… Leer más
