Kol de Alvarenga (1892-1967), agricultural engineer and author, a native of Lisbon, occupied important official posts, mostly in the Ministério da Agricultura. Frequent contributor to newspapers and reviews devoted to agriculture, he was also a critic of art and literature. His library was sold at auction by Soares & Mendonça, with Manuel Ferreira as expert in 1968 and a preface by Pedro Veiga, the catalogue consisting of three volumes, containing over 8,000 lots.Renascença Portuguesa was a cultural and civic group founded in 1911 by Teixeira de Pascoaes, Jaime Cortesão, Raúl Proença, António Sérgio, Leonardo Coimbra, Álvaro Pinto, Augusto Casimiro, and others. The group's literary review, Á Aguia, continued publication until 1932. Pascoaes, Proença, and Sérgio soon disagreed on the long-term goals of Renascença Portuguesa, and the movement became the mouthpiece of Saudosismo.
