Presentation copy from George Augustus Sala to Charlotte Bouverie "C.B. from G.A.S. Jan 85" at head of title, and from Charlotte Bouverie to Ellen Terry with inscription in Ellen Terry's hand "Ellen Terry from Charlotte Bouverie 1888" on half title leaf, with her initials "ET" on verso of front endpaper. Very good clean copy. From the collection of John Ruyle with his small ownership label on front endpaper, along with a small bookseller's description tipped in.

¶ The most well-known title by Charles Stuart Calverley (1831-1884), English poet and wit, father of the "the university school of humour". George Augustus Henry Sala (1828-1895), noted English journalist; Dame Ellen Terry, (1847-1928), English stage actress who became the leading Shakespearean actress in Britain.
