The story of a caterpillar's journey toward metamorphosis traveling through a series of die-cut holes in six of the leaves (four of which are trimmed to shorter lengths) before constructing his cocoon and emerging a butterfly. Grolier Children's 100, No. 99.
CONDITION: Good, lacking the dust jacket. Cloth lightly soiled, gift inscription in ink opposite title page. Several small stray pencil marks to front and back cover [the latter showing evidence of erasure but no damage], occasional surface scratches and minor blemishes, very light rubbing to spine ends; 1/16" chip top inside of rear board; 3/8" bump and tiny crack at bottom of front board; Binding a bit slack, with stitching omewhat exposed at pp. 2-3. The internal pages have no names, no inscriptions and no bookstore stamps. The internal pages are clean and bright overall; two have small faint pale stains in the lower margin. (please see photos. An incredibly scarce book at a great price even with the flaws.
