One of the most popular novels among Victorians, The Vicar of Wakefield was originally published in 1766, and concerns family endurance, and the drama surrounding the Primrose family, who live an idyllic country life until they loose finances and their daughter is abducted. A comedic novel told with much sentiment. With illustrations by Hugh Thomson and an introduction by Austin Dobson. Thomson was a renowned illustrator known for decorating works by important authors including Jane Austen and Charles Dickens.Written by Oliver Goldsmith, popular Anglo-Irish novelist, playwright, and poet in the Georgian era. This is his most well known work, along with the pastoral poem 'The Deserted Village' and his play 'The Good Natur'd Man.'Stationers School's bookplate to front pastedown, dated 1909. Rebound in full calf signed Mudie for the Stationers School with five raised bands, gilt tooling to spine, blind stamp to front board, marbled edges and endpapers. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, minor marks to rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
