Laid in is a black and white illustrated, loose 6 page pamphlet "Vicksburg National Military Park, Mississippi. U.S. Government Printing Office. The final page is a map of the park, Revised 1954. Vicksburg was surrendered to Maj. General Ulysses S. Grant on July 4, 1863 by Lt. General John Pemberton. The loss of this stronghold on the Mississippi effectively split the Confederacy in half. Grant's success leads ultimately to his appointment as General-in-Chief of the Union armies.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
